My name is Alicia Baez and I am a student at The Academy at Penguin Hall. The message I want to convey is to be proud to wear your natural hair out. When I was younger, my hair was constantly straightened and relaxed, and when I started to leave my hair natural, people began to make comments and try to convince me to straighten it again. However, that didn’t stop me from continuing my natural hair journey. In my perspective, in the Dominican Republic, many women who have curly/coily hair constantly chemically straighten their hair. Dominican women need to break free from this cycle of insecurity and embrace their “pajón”.
