HISTORIC NEW ENGLAND NORTH SHORE PROPERTIES WELCOME THE PUBLIC TO AN OPEN HOUSE

Join Historic New England on June 1 for a New England-wide Open House and explore distinctly different historic sites for free. On Massachusetts’ North Shore, visitors can experience hundreds of years of history at the organization’s 10 properties, including Phillips House and Gedney House in Salem, Beauport, the Sleeper-McCann House in Gloucester, and Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm in Newbury. 

Come to the Phillips House, located at 34 Chestnut Street and visit the only house open to the public on the “most beautiful street in America.” The learn about the life of the Phillips family, their renovations, the domestic staff, and the collection which includes five generations of antiques, art, furnishings, carriages, and cars. Phillips House will be open from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.

The Gedney House is located at 21 High Street. After stepping inside, visitors are able to see how the second oldest home in Salem was built in 1665, hear the story of widowed tavern keeper Mary Gedney, and learn how the neighborhood transformed in the early 20th century. Highlights include the original post and beam construction and original seventeenth century paint treatments in the chamber. Gedney House will be open from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.
