Lindsay Straw
Folk
Lindsay Straw is a traditional folk musician who has drawn praise for her tender singing voice, extensive Celtic repertoire, and sensitive, agile accompaniment on bouzouki and guitar. She has toured at home and abroad, and released her second album of traditional songs in April 2017. She performs her own interpretations of traditional British and Irish songs, accompanying herself with finger-style guitar or Irish bouzouki and often features a couple of instrumental pieces. This year she’s releasing an album of songs featuring strong female protagonists, which has served as a theme for her recent concerts.

Dingonek Street Band
Jazz
The Dingonek Street Band is a raucous, improvisatory brass band fusing funky New Orleans second-line with post-bop jazz and the music of West Africa and Ethiopia. The Dingonek is an ambulatory unit equally comfortable mic’ed on stage or in wholly acoustic environments. The group has a fairly wide dynamic range and can play dance sets as well as improvisational jazz.

Grupo Fantasia
Latin
Grupo Fantasia provides traditional island entertainment for all people and much of the music is performed on original, handmade indigenous instruments. The extensive repertoire includes original and cover songs from the Caribbean and Latin America. Also represented are various Cuban, Dominican Merengue, Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena, Colombian Cumbia, Mexican Mariachi, Calypso, Reggae and Salsa music.

The Friends of Broadway

“The Friends of Broadway” is a non-profit musical revue featuring girls who travel all over the country singing and dancing to the likes of Broadway, movies, pop songs, oldies, holiday/summer favorites, and much more! Originally a group of six, each new season boasts a cast of up to 22 girls ranging from grades 2 through college.

Gretchen and the Pickpockets
Alternative Rock
Named after a hometown road with a history for larceny, the group has become known for their unique blend of genres and their energetic live shows. Whether it be an old jazz cat, a young punk, or anyone in between, it matters not. Give them a chance, and they might just pickpocket your heart away. Gretchen and the Pickpockets consists of a drummer, bassist, guitarist, trumpet player, and singer who perform a blend of rock, jazz, and soul.

Belly Dance
Witch City Belly Dance is comprised of professional and amateur belly dancers from Salem, with guests from the entire North Shore. They represent a tapestry of ethnic, cultural and experimental styles. From traditional to modern, they draw on the ancient dances of the Middle East and Mediterranean, adding their own fusion and flair to the mix. Their performance theme this year is Compassion.

Is Bridget Bishop capable of witchcraft? Play your part in history…History Alive! is committed to the production of new theater based on true stories from the past.

Siren of the Circle
Hoopdance
Siren of the Circle is a hoopdance performer, instructor, and hoop burlesque artist from Salem. She’ll lure you in and make your head spin with her hypnotizing hoopdance. She completed hoop teacher training with renowned instructor Caroleeena in 2011. Siren is the founder of Salem Spinjam, a free seasonal gathering to practice movement arts for fun, fresh air and exercise.

Brooks Young Band

The Brooks Young Band saturates its songs with rock and roll edge and blues feel, going for a direct, emotional and powerful sonic blend. Brooks’ searing guitar leads and soulful vocal performances lock in perfectly with the solid rhythm section, creating an inspirational and uplifting sonic texture along the lines of influential performers such as Eric Clapton and Dave Matthews.The Brooks Young Band has toured extensively throughout New England, sharing the stage with icons such as B.B. King, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, The Wallflowers, and Boyd Tinsley of Dave Matthews Band. They have also had the privilege of performing for Vice President Joe Biden.

One Heart Infinite Pulses
Yoga, Movement
One Heart Infinite Pulses is a grassroots movement whose purpose is to actualize the healing power of love through events and experiences that build on connection, coalition and collaboration through expressive and healing arts. One Heart Infinite Pulses will offer yoga and free form movement with the ambient sounds from Qwill. This interactive experience invites people to participate to any degree: fully embracing the physical embodiment of yoga and movement, or just sitting back and listening to the meditative experience of the music. This will be for all levels, and is open for people to participate for as long as they please.

Flamenco Boston
Flamenco
Flamenco is an eclectic art form originating from the cultural melting pot that was the South of Spain, blending together the influences of the Andalusians, Moors, Sephardic Jews, and Gypsies. Flamenco Boston will deliver an authentic flamenco performance filled with intricate guitar playing, emotional singing, and dynamic dancing. The performance will consist of both musical and dance pieces.

Greane, a native New-England singer-songwriter is an ode to a different kind of 99 percent, the 99 percent of people who do things everyday to make the lives of those around them better, yet whose small acts of courage and kindness often go overlooked. Greane’s music is his gift to all and provides that single moment where perhaps a memory, thought, smile, or tear evokes the celebration that is the journey of life that we travel. As an acoustic singer-songwriter his music is rootsy and real. He plays guitar in a pop/ bluegrass/ folk style while he sings and accompanies himself on harmonica. He plays a variety of originals and old traditionals in a contemporary fashion.

Dark Follies is an award winning vaudeville style variety show based in Portland, Maine. Family friendly while still keeping an edge, Dark Follies features the live music of the Dark Follies Rhythm Orchestra, dancing, juggling, side show acts, fire performers and more.
Their four piece band provides music to accompany their acts, and their shows include belly dance, song, flow arts, sword dancing, comedy, acrobatics and gyroscopic juggling.

Covering a variety of material spanning generations of bluegrass history, as well as performing their own original songs, the Howlers aim to share their love of this inspiring genre!

DeepC is an Indian born guitarist/singer-songwriter that blends different styles of music to create an original ROCK sound. The influence of Divers, with a progressive rock guitarist, dub drummer, and reggae bassist, appeals to all audiences who listen to all genres of music. Playing straight from the heart with strong grooves and haunting melodies, DeepC Divers embodies an unique blend of far east and west.

Alternative Rock/Contemporary Dance
Calamus is a contemporary band whose music vacillates between eerie soundscapes and alternative rock, They are currently recording an original soundtrack to accompany performances at The Witchery, a new mixed-use art space in Salem, MA. They are Margaret McGilvray, Bruce Malley, Aaron Waltz, and Michael Connolly. Calamus often collaborates with local dancers and spoken word artists and perform as a 4-piece band.

BoSoma Dance Company
Modern Dance
BoSoma Dance Company’s goal is to inspire Boston’s North Shore Community through the art and physicality of dance. Under the direction of Katherine Hooper, BoSoma brings together a group of exceptionally trained dancers to perform high energy modern dance in main stage performances and educational workshops in schools and studios. BoSoma dancers, as some audience members may recall, provided innovative interpretive performances during the recent Rodin exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum.
